aus den liner-notes von Roman Schwaller:
We hear Frank Foster’s „Simone.“ I encountered this piece for the first time at the Domicile in Munich where it was a part of the repertoire of George Coleman’s Octet. At that time the soloist was tenorsaxophonist Sal Nistico. „Simone“ is, after „Shiny Stockings“, Frank’s best known original and can be found in certain realbooks, albeit with chords that Frank immediately corrected in Mannheim. We hear a version with two sopranos – pretty brave, these guys! Actually the piece is a long meter minor blues in 3/4 time if you know what I mean … If you don’t think too much, you can hear the form quite clearly. Jürgen is the first soloist, quite the virtuoso, getting to the point with his sonorous, dark and extremely controlled soprano sound. In my opinion his one of the top European soprano saxophonists. An excited Keith Copeland stirs the drums into the mix. It’s happening! In his solo Frank demonstrates masterfully the diversity of his musical influences – impressive! And for the first time soundman Winnie Leyh has to cast a worried glance at the sound levels on the drum channels!
